HCMC students will take a break of 12 days for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, the city People’s Committee announced Saturday.
The holiday for students and pre-schoolers in HCMC will last from January 18 to 29 next year. Initially, HCMC gave a nine-day break, from January 18 to 26, but many said it is not convenient for the students to return to school on the 27th, which is Friday, then take the weekend off.
Last year, HCMC students got a nine-day break, and 14-day the previous years.
Ho Tan Minh, Chief of the Office of the HCMC Department of Education and Training, said that in previous years, many students began the new school year in mid-August. However, in the 2022-2023 school year, 1.6 million students from preschools to high schools in HCMC started on September 5, following a late summer break as Covid-19 disrupted school gatherings.
“There are only two weeks to spare for the Lunar New Year and other holidays in this school year, so the city needs proper scheduling to ensure the education plan,” Minh said.
Many provinces have announced the Tet holiday break for students, which range from 11 to 14 days.
The Lunar New Year peaks on January 22, and laborers will have a seven-day break from January 20 to 26.
