HCMC ranks second and Hanoi ninth in the list of most affordable cities to travel in Asia for tourists compiled by American magazine Travel+Leisure.
The list is based on searches on travel aggregation website Kayak between January and June this year for travel to Asia between June and December.
Travel+Leisure editors then combined the average round-trip economy airfare from the U.S. with the average rate of a one-night stay in a standard double hotel room to determine the 10 cheapest cities for travelers.
The average total cost for a round-trip flight and one-night stay at a hotel HCMC was $1,452, only after Taiwan’s Taipei, voted as Asia’s cheapest city with the average price standing at $1,411.
“Vietnam Airlines now has direct flights from San Francisco to HCMC, which can be really good value,” according to Travel+Leisure.
The average total cost in Hanoi was $1,546.
Comparing to other Southeast Asian destinations, traveling to HCMC was much cheaper than in Jakarta (1,478), Bangkok ($1,493), Manila ($1,495) and Kuala Lumpur ($1,505).
