HCM City — After the Tết holidays the demand for labour in HCM City has skyrocketed, especially for well-trained and highly qualified workers.

The Centre for Forecasting Manpower Needs and Labour Market Information HCM City (FALMI) said the city is likely to need 255.000 – 310.000 workers this year.

According to Đỗ Thanh Vân, its vice president, after Tết the labour market is seeing positive and exciting changes since businesses are seeking a large number of workers, who are needed for their production plans.

A recent study by YouGov (UK), an internet-based market research and data analytics company, and Grove HR Solutions Company (Vietnam) found that a majority of employees want salaries 10-30 per cent higher than before.

Thus, to attract employees, companies need to offer good salaries and benefits.

But not many workers are able to meet the conditions companies stipulate, and so, ironically, despite the demand, many people find it hard to find a job.

Thảo, 24, of District 8, who used to be a customer service employee at a private hospital is one of those finding it hard to get a job.

After many interviews, she still remains unemployed.

She said: “Employees are not only expected to know foreign languages but also work overtime. But the payment they offer is not reasonable.”
