HCM CITY — Eighty young doctors, nurses and other health workers at 36 medical facilities in HCM City were awarded the Phạm Ngọc Thạch Prize by the city unit of the Hồ Chí Minh Youth Communist Union last week.

They were honoured for their contributions to the city’s fight against COVID-19 and outstanding efforts to take care of people’s health.

Some are into research to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment.

Speaking at a ceremony last Friday, Nguyễn Hồ Hải, deputy secretary of the city Party Committee, said the health sector has made strong progress in recent years, and contributed to protecting the public, especially amid the pandemic.

He emphasised the important role of young workers in the health sector’s development and voluntary activities to help needy people and the COVID fight.

He hoped young doctors and nurses would continue to improve their skills, promote research and become a model for future generations.

On behalf of the awardees, Trần Thụy Hồng Anh, a nurse at the city Ear-Nose-Throat Hospital, said, “The Phạm Ngọc Thạch Prize is a motivation for me and other young health workers to improve our skills and ethics to serve the people.”

The biennial prize was set up in 2009 to honour young health workers. — VnExpress News
