VŨNG TÀU — HCM City topped the ranking of the National Junior, Youth and Cadet Tennis Championships which closed on August 15 in Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu Province.

After 10 days of competitions, organisers found champions of different groups. HCM City with the highest number of 80 athletes took nine golds.

They were followed by the Army Team with three golds and Hà Nội and Đà Nẵng shared the third position with two golds each.

In the last day, HCM City secured four titles from 12 final matches.

The champions were Nguyễn Nam (boys’ U16), Nguyễn Minh Phát (boys’ U18), Bùi Thu Hà/Nguyễn Linh Nhi (girl doubles U12) and Huỳnh Ngọc Khánh/Nguyễn Ngọc Đông Nhi (girls’ doubles U14).

The Army Team and Đà Nẵng took two titles while Hà Nội, Bình Dương, Ninh Bình and Vĩnh Phúc bagged one each.

“I am very happy to win a first place in the boys’ U18 singles event at this year’s tournament,” said Phát.

“This is my last time taking part in the tournament for juniors. I have prepared and practiced a lot for it. I hope to continue to achieve high achievements in the upcoming national and international tournaments.”

Players of the girls’ U18 doubles category receive their awards.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Việt Nam Tennis Federation (VTF) General Secretary Nguyễn Hồng Sơn said at this year’s tournament, the players who won bronzes at the recent international event in Singapore still proved their ability. It meant that VTF’s recruitment and training activities were in good process.

These players would be Việt Nam’s representative at the upcoming events. Among them, Lê Tiến Anh will take part in the 2024 Asian 14 and Under Junior Championship in Cambodia next month.

VTF appreciated youth training activities of cities and provinces. Some of these units won medals in the first participation such as Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu and Vĩnh Long.

The championship which saw a record of more than 500 athletes was one of VTF’s strategic plans to develop young generation players who would serve the national teams in the near future. VNS
