Hanoi has been ranked 97th in a global listing of the 100 best tourist cities in the world, according to leading tourism advisory firm Resonance Consultancy.
Vietnam’s capital was chosen based on its high safety level and busy nightlife.
To compile the ranking, the Canada-based company assessed the world’s tourist cities with a population of more than 1 million based on six factors: the quality of tourism, the diversity of tourist attractions, nightlife, people, prosperity and popularity.
“The Vietnamese capital’s frenetic serenity takes it to the next level post-pandemic,” Resonance said.
Established during French colonial times, Dong Xuan Market, the city’s oldest, where tourists can easily buy clothes, electronic goods and thousands of other items, should not be missed during a visit to Hanoi, it said.
Hanoi’s nightlife scene is also quite busy, according to the company as it advised tourists to stroll through Hanoi’s Old Quarter and enjoy ice-cold glasses of bia hoi, draft beer, while sitting on plastic chairs or to visit one of the city’s fancy coffee shops that are open until the early hours.
Hanoi is about a two-hour drive from world heritage site Ha Long Bay where limestone karst mountains and thousands of small islets rise above the water.
London was named the world’s best tourist city, followed by Paris and New York.
Bangkok ranked 30th on the list and Jakarta 89th.
