Gung-ho Thai striker in no doubt about beating Vietnam

Thai striker Yotsakor Burapha is confident his team will beat Vietnam on Thursday and top group B in the SEA Games men’s football event.

He said two factors guarantee victory for Thailand, team spirit and squad depth.

Burapha is Thailand’s youngest player at the games, and the 18-year-old has scored three goals in the two matches he played to become his team’s top scorer along with Teerasak Poeiphimai.

But midfielder Purachet Thodsanit was more cautious before the Vietnam clash.

He said the Vietnamese players are strong and have a high work rate.

“We were a bit tired after the match against Laos, but now we are ready to continue fighting.”

Both teams have already qualified for the semifinals after winning all their three matches.

With their better goal difference (+7), Thailand only need a draw against Vietnam (+5) to finish top.

In the last four, the group winner will clash with Myanmar, who finished second in group A, while the runners-up will play Indonesia, who topped group A with four wins.

The Vietnam-Thailand match kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday, and VnExpress International will have live reporting.
