An ocean of vehicles inundated gateways leading to Hanoi on Saturday in the wake of a nine-day Tet break starting Jan. 29.
Over the past three days, toll stations on Phap Van-Cau Gie Expressway have been congested with streams of vehicles trying to reach the capital. |
Apart from toll booths, Phap Van Toll Station had to mobilize more than 10 staff to process cash payments. |
After passing the toll station, vehicles are redirected to avoid congestion at Hanoi’s southern gateway. More than one kilometer of the four-meter wide road near Dong My Commune of Thanh Tri District got jammed. |
Lines of cars and motorcycles slowly enter the capital via a street near Nuoc Ngam Bus Station. |
The pouring rain and outside temperature of 14 degrees Celsius hampered travel. |
“I caught a bus from northern Ninh Binh Province at 12 p.m. and arrived in Hanoi at 5 p.m., it was one hour longer than usual because of two congestion points, especially at toll stations,” said Nguyen Thi Loan. |
Many travelers are loaded down after the long holiday. |
Many exits from Ring Road 3 are flooded with vehicles. |
