Former education leaders committed violations: inspectors

The Central Inspection Commission says the Party Civil Affairs Committee of the education ministry committed several management violations in the 2016-2021 term.

In a press release issued Thursday, the commission said the Party Civil Affairs Committee of the Ministry of Education and Training had been negligent in its leadership and management, allowing certain individuals and organizations to violate Party regulations and the law.

The violations had to do with: certain public projects; the creation and publication of course books; the organization of the national high school graduation examination in 2018 and 2021; and other activities.

The responsibility for these violations lie with: the Party Civil Affairs Committee of the education ministry; Phung Xuan Nha, deputy head of the Central Propaganda Department and former education minister; Nguyen Huu Do, former deputy education minister, and other current and former officials under the education ministry, the commission said.

It also said that the violations have impacted the results of a resolution on education and training passed by the Central Party Committee; risked the loss of state’s money and properties and society’s resources; caused social unrest; and negatively impacted the reputation of the Party and of the education sector.

During the national high school graduation examination in 2018, fraud was detected in Ha Giang, Hoa Binh and Son La provinces, with 222 candidates having their grades artificially increased. Thirty-two officials involved in the exam scandal were prosecuted.
