Foreign tourist hospitalized after being bitten by dog in Nha Trang

A foreign tourist sustained serious injuries after being bitten by a ferocious dog weighing 20kg in Nha Trang beach town on Sunday.

The 19-year-old boy, whose nationality remains unknown, was walking with his friend at around 6 a.m. on October 23 Street in Vinh Hiep Commune when they were attacked by the dog.

The man was bitten in his arms and legs and he fell on the street, calling for help while his friend tried to fight back but was also attacked by the dog.

“Residents nearby rushed to chase away the dog, and it took about five minutes for the dog to let go and run home,” a witness said.

Local residents said the dog repeatedly attacked people on the street, including sanitation workers.

Later, both foreign tourists were brought to Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital for treatment.

Dr. Tran Bao Anh said the male tourist suffered two 8 cm and 10 cm long wounds in his right hand, severed biceps muscle in his right arm while his left hand and right thigh also sustained injuries.

After receiving a surgery and stitches, his health was stable and was transferred to the Orthopedic Trauma Center for monitoring.

Following the attack, local authorities have worked with the dog’s owner and police also stepped in to investigate the case.

Many dog attacks across the country have been reported recently.

Public opinions have been divided on the matter of muzzling dogs. Many dog owners are not comfortable with having their pets muzzled every time they are taken out of the house, while others said dogs should be muzzled in public places as a safety measure.
