HÀ NỘI — HCM City’s health authorities on Friday announced five community Omicron cases found during random screening.
The five were confirmed by the HCM City Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in 72 samples taken from COVID-19-infected people in hospitals in the city between January 31 and February 2, 2022.
These include one person from the central province of Nghệ An, one returning to HCM City from Đồng Tháp Province after the Tết (Lunar New Year) holiday, and three residents of HCM City.
All five were fully vaccinated against the virus.
Four are suffering from mild fever and sore throats, while one is asymptomatic, but all are in stable health conditions, the southern city’s health authorities noted.
Contact tracing has revealed 19 direct contacts and found three COVID-19 positive cases.
The HCM City Centre for Disease Control said the five community Omicron cases were from unknown sources of infection.
To date, the city has logged 125 Omicron cases, including 115 imported cases, and 10 in the community (the previous five local cases earlier in January 2022 were connected to a Vietnamese woman returning from overseas).
No one is in serious condition.
The remaining 197 Omicron cases were found in Quảng Nam (27), Quảng Ninh (20), Hà Nội (14), Khánh Hòa (11), Đà Nẵng (8), Hưng Yên (6), Kiên Giang (4), Thanh Hóa (2), Hải Dương (2), and one each in Hải Phòng, Long An, Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu, Bình Dương, Lâm Đồng, and Ninh Bình provinces.— VnExpress News
