Fish jumps down man’s throat

The 55-year-old man was trying to catch fish when a climbing perch jumped into his mouth and went down his throat.

He tried to get it out, but could only push it down further instead. The spines on the fish injured his throat, causing bleeding.

The patient was taken to the Giong Rieng District medical center for emergency medical help late last week.

On Wednesday, doctor Nguyen Hoang Quy, head of the center’s otorhinolaryngology department, said the dead fish was taken out of the patient’s throat, but the organ has already sustained heavy damage.

The patient received treatment, and was eventually discharged after a few days.

“I have been catching fish since I was small, but I never encountered a situation like this,” the patient said.
