Firefighters killed in traffic accident while on mission

A fire truck flipped over while on duty in southern Vietnam on Thursday afternoon, killing two officers on board.

The deaths of the two firefighters, lieutenant Ngo Quang Sang, 24, and private Ho Kiet Tuong, 20, were confirmed Friday by Colonel Bui Xuan Thang, director of the Police Department in Binh Phuoc Province.

The department’s Fire Prevention and Rescue unit dispatched a team to put off a fire on Thursday afternoon.

When the fire truck arrived in Thuan Loi Commune of Dong Phu District, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit the roadside and flip over.

Local people broke the truck’s doors and rushed firefighters stuck inside to emergency aid.

Sang was killed on the spot while Tuong died at the hospital.

Four other officers on the truck are now in stable condition.

Colonel Thang said at the time the accident took place, it was raining, making the street slippery at the section where the truck flipped, the road is winding and quite steep.
