FIFA President Gianni Infantino has affirmed to continue supporting Vietnamese men’s football in the pursuit of World Cup dream.

Infantino and AFC President Salman Al-Khalifa met with Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) acting president Tran Quoc Tuan during Tuan’s visit to Paris on Wednesday as they discussed Vietnam’s World Cup dream.

Infantino and Al-Khalifa showed their appreciation for the recent development of Vietnamese football. They recognized VFF as one of the leading national football federations in Southeast Asia, through cooperation with other big federations in Asia such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Japan, and South Korea as well as expanding cooperation with German Football Federation and in the near future, French Football Federation.

Thanks to this approach, Vietnam’s teams are given the opportunity to train and compete in developed football countries, to improve their quality and level, Infantino said. As a result, Vietnam have achieved impressive continental feats with their men’s, women’s football and futsal teams in recent years.

The FIFA president affirmed that he will continue to support and strengthen assistance for member federations in general and VFF in particular. He expressed interest in cooperative programs with VFF to organize more FIFA events in Vietnam. He is committed to supporting the development of Vietnamese football through FIFA’s projects in the coming years, to help Vietnam’s national men’s football team qualify for the World Cup as soon as possible.

Infantino also appreciated the support of the Vietnam government for the development of Vietnamese football. He hopes that the government would continue to provide solutions and assistance for Vietnamese football to further grow and succeed.

Tuan thanked FIFA and AFC for their support, especially projects to improve facilities and training conditions of the national team.

In recent years, Vietnamese football has boasted great achievements. The futsal team qualified for the Futsal World Cup finals twice, in 2016 and 2021, the men’s team entered the final round of World Cup qualifiers last year and the women’s team qualified for 2023 Women’s World Cup earlier this year.
