Expressway sections through central provinces proposed at $1 bln

Two North-South Expressway sections through Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces will be built this year at VND23.5 trillion ($1 billion), its investor proposed.

In a feasibility study report sent to the Ministry of Transport, the project management unit No. 7 under the ministry said one of the sections, Chi Thanh – Van Phong, will run more than 48 kilometers across Phu Yen Province.

Costing more than VND11 trillion, including VND8 trillion in construction, site clearance and consultation, the section will have four lanes spreading 17 meters wide for vehicles to move at 80 kph in its first phase.

It will comprise 32 bridges and a tunnel.

The other section, Van Phong – Nha Trang, will run 84 kilometers across Khanh Hoa Province. It will cost VND12.5 trillion, including VND8.3 trillion in construction.

Its first phase will have four lanes for vehicles to move at 80 kph.

Work on both sections is set to start late this year for completion in 2026.

In January, the National Assembly approved a 729-kilometer (453 miles) expansion to the eastern part of North-South Expressway.

As allowed by the parliament, VND147 trillion ($6.3 billion) of the state budget will be spent to implement 12 projects on the expansion. These projects will consume 5,481 hectares (13,543 acres) of land in total, including 1,532 hectares of farmland, 110 hectares of protected forest, and 1,436 of productive forest.
