Exhibition highlighting evolution of VN fashion opens in HCM City

HCM CITY An exhibition highlighting the trend of Việt Nam’s fashion over the past two decades is opening in HCM City.

The exhibition entitled “Vietnam’s Fashion Journey 2000-2023” is organised by Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam magazine to help fashion lovers learn more about the diversity and development of Việt Nam’s fashion industry.

The event showcases around 100 creations by Vietnamese designers who have made great contributions to the flourishing of fashion in Việt Nam such as Nguyễn Công Trí and Tuyết Lê.

Information on their biographies, collections, and achievements is also featured.

Trí, a member of the Asian Couture Federation (ACF), brings signature items to the exhibition.

The creations are from special collections such as Em Hoa (Flowers) at Tokyo Fashion Week 2017, and CONG TRI Fall/Winter 2019 at New York Fashion Week, where his designs became known by international figures.

He has designed clothing for global stars such as Adele, Beyoncé and Jessica Chastain.

Trí, who won second prize at the 2001 Asian Young Fashion Designers Contest in Singapore, has attended leading fashion events at home and abroad, including Vietnam International Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Tokyo Fashion Week, and the Origin Passion and Belief Fair in Vicenza, Italy.

Designer Lê of Hà Nội presents her outstanding designs, which have been worn by international celebrities such as Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, and Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Gabrena Ong.

She was awarded the Designer of the Year at the Harper’s Bazaar Star Awards 2022.

“Vietnam’s Fashion Journey 2000-2023 exhibition aims to mark the achievements of Việt Nam’s fashion industry in the early 21st century. Although Việt Nam’s fashion is young, it has grown magnificently, so we must honour those who contributed to its development,” Nguyễn Trần Thiên Hương, the magazine’s editor-in-chief and head of the event’s organising board, said.

The exhibition also features fashion reality shows Vietnam’s Next Top Model and Project Runway Vietnam which were launched in the 2010s and contributed to popularising the fashion industry and modeling in the country.

A corner honouring the Vietnamese traditional craft of silk and handloom weaving is set up at the event as well.

The exhibition is open from 9am to 6pm until December 23 at the Global City urban area on Đỗ Xuân Hợp Street in An Phú Ward, Thủ Đức City. Admission is free. VNS
