Belgium Nobel prize laureate Francois Englert is one of 120 leading world scientists gathering at an international physics conference that opened in Quy Nhon City, central Binh Dinh province, on August 11.
In his opening speech, Professor Englert talked about the discovery of Higgs boson as one of the greatest scientific landmarks of recent years. The Higgs boson is fundamentally a crucial discovery to physics, destined to receive the next Nobel Prize, as it explains why particles have mass.
Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) former Director Nguyen Van Hieu in turn spoke about the Higgs boson discovery, saying it provides basic knowledge on building our physical world.
Vietnam needs to hold more such scientific conferences serve the development of the nation, particularly in information technology and the shipbuilding industries, Hieu said.
During the conference, taking place from August 11-17, the Meet Vietnam Organisation and the Ho Chi Minh City National University will meet with Binh Dinh provincial leaders discussing the scientific park under construction in Ghenh Rang ward, Quy Nhon City.
Binh Binh provincial People’s Committee Chairman Le Huu Loc said the project project is scheduled to get underway in August 2015.
