If the global economy bounces back next year and Vietnamese companies receive more orders, the city will need 300,000-320,000 more laborers, a government agency has said.
The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Forecasting Manpower Needs and Labor Market Information (Falmi) has said that recruitment demands will depend on global economic growth scenarios.
If the global economy continues to slow and Vietnam export orders remain short, 2023 labor demand may be for only 280,000-300,000 new workers.
But Falmi deputy director Do Thanh Van reported Wednesday that if the economy gets better, some 300,000-320,000 workers will be needed, including 79,000-87,000 in the first quarter alone.
Nearly 90% of recruitment demand will come from private companies, according to Falmi analysts.
Falmi also reported that 70% of recruitment demand will be in the commercial-service sector, while the rest will be in the industrial and construction fields.
The center estimated that demand for employees with at least a college degree will make up 38% of the total.
