Dollar ups on black market

The U.S. dollar went up against the Vietnamese dong Friday on the black market but remained stable at banks.

Unofficial exchange points sold the greenback at VND23,560, up 0.15% from Thursday.

Vietcombank’s exchange rate remained stable at VND23,620.

The dollar remained unchanged at Eximbank at VND23,580.

Techcombank also maintained its rate at VND23,620.

The State Bank of Vietnam lowered its reference rate by 0.01% to VND23,606.

The dollar has decreased by 0.46% against the dong since the beginning of the year.

The euro and sterling slipped against the dollar on Friday as markets took a dovish cue from policymakers at the European Central Bank and the Bank of England, who said inflationary pressures in their economies have become more manageable, Reuters reported.

The pound slid 0.15% to a more than two-week low of $1.2206 in early Asia trade, after falling 1.2% in the previous session, its largest daily decline in a month.

The euro was last 0.16% lower at $1.0893, after tumbling 0.7% on Thursday to move further away from its 10-month peak of $1.1034.
