Dollar falls slightly

The U.S. dollar went down against the Vietnamese dong Friday morning.

Vietcombank sold the dollar at VND24,710, down 0.06% from Thursday.

The State Bank of Vietnam reduced its reference rate is at VND24,037, down 0.02%.

The greenback dropped 0.40% to VND24,880 on the black market, down 0.40%.

It has increased against the dong by 1.19% since the beginning of the year.

Globally the dollar headed for a second weekly gain in a row on Friday on signs of resilience in the U.S. economy and caution about rate cuts from central bankers, Reuters reported.

Weekly gains on the risk-sensitive Australian and New Zealand dollars of 1.7% and 2.1% are set to be the largest since November and June respectively. Markets price a 57% chance of a U.S. rate cut in March, down from 75% a week ago.

The dollar index is up 0.9% to 103.4 on the week and at 148.12 yen the dollar is up almost 5% on the Japanese currency this year as confidence that the Bank of Japan is about to hike rates has also been rattled.
