Dollar declines on black market

The U.S. dollar dropped 0.04% to VND23,540 at unofficial exchange points Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, the dollar rose slightly against the Vietnamese dong at some banks. Vietcombank sold the greenback at VND23,630, up 0.04% from Friday.

The rate at Techcombank is VND23,645, up 0.06%.

Eximbank and ACB kept the rate unchanged at VND23,570 and 23,700, respectively.

The USD/VND exchange rate has decreased by 0.42% since the beginning of the year.

The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV)’s reference rate is at VND23,608, up 0.01%.

The dollar clung to modest gains against the euro on Friday after data showed falling U.S. consumer spending and cooling inflation, and as investors awaited a slew of central bank meetings next week.

The euro was 0.17% lower at $1.08725, but not far from the nine-month high of $1.09295 touched on Monday. For the week, the common currency was up about 0.2%.

Against the yen , the dollar was 0.25% lower at 129.89 yen as hot Tokyo inflation readings spurred bets that a hawkish pivot from the Bank of Japan (BOJ) could be in the offing, according to Reuters.
