Designers bring upcycled clothing to New York Fashion Week

The “Hoi Sinh” (Revival) collection debuted on Sept. 11 as part of this year’s New York Fashion Week, taking place until Sept. 14.

The two fashion designers handcrafted certain patterns out of linen.

According to Hai Long, they use recycled materials to protect the environment. “We cut and rearrange used fabrics to create new clothes,” he explained.

They also print images with Vietnamese features like lotus flowers, dragons and phoenixes and ancient buildings on their designs.

They and their crew worked on the collection for almost six months.

A U.S-based company helped the designer duo participate in New York Fashion Week.

Each outfit is intricately connected and hand-embroidered with traditional motifs.

Huynh Hai Long (right) earned a bachelor’s degree in drama from the University of Theater and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City. He took first place in the Vietnam Collection Grandprix 2009 competition. Long’s mentor is Dang The Huy (left).
For the past 12 years, the team has participated in various fashion events, including the China Fashion Designers Creation Contest 2011 in Shanghai and the Tokyo Fashion Show in Japan.
New York Fashion Week is one of four major fashion weeks in the world, collectively known as the “Big 4”, along with those in Paris, London, and Milan.
