Da Nang eyes launch of direct flights to India, Europe

Da Nang, Vietnam’s third most important city and tourism hub, will work with foreign carriers to launch direct flights to India, Australia, the U.K., and Germany.

Nguyen Thi Hoai An, director of the city’s tourism promotion center, said India’s two largest carriers Air India and Indigo would discuss the potential of launching direct flights between Da Nang and New Delhi during an aviation event that will take place from June 4-9.

Budget airline Vietjet Air plans to operate a direct service connecting Da Nang and New Delhi from September as India was one of Vietnam’s growing tourism markets before the pandemic.

Currently, Vietnamese carriers only operate direct flights from Hanoi, HCMC to Indian cities.

An said city authorities would work with British Airways and Germany’s Lufthansa to seek opportunities of opening air routes from Da Nang to Europe in the coming time.

Da Nang targets high-spending tourists from India, Australia and Europe post pandemic to diversify its tourism markets and reduce dependence on traditional markets such as China and South Korea.

The city resumed its international flights since late March after two years of suspension due to the Covid pandemic.

Da Nang, with its beautiful beaches and other stunning tourist sights, targets 180,000 foreign visitors this year.
