The head of the Da Lat urban management department has been suspended following a landslide that killed two people Thursday.
The Lam Dong Province People’s Committee suspended Nguyen Duong Trung Huu while it investigates the approval and monitoring of a construction site where two workers died following a landslide that buried them inside their tent.
Work has been halted at all steep-terrain construction sites in the area for safety evaluations.
The Department of Construction has been tasked with monitoring and evaluating the approval, design and structure of all constructions at the site of the landslide.
Da Lat has experienced multiple destructive landslides in recent days.
The landslide on Thursday morning caused the collapse of a 50-meter-long section of the embankment on Hoang Hoa Tham Street, sending rubble down on top of a tent, burying the two aforementioned workers, a husband and wife.
The landslide also damaged several houses in the area.
Another worker at the construction site said the incident might have happened due to prolonged heavy rains that caused water to seep underground and destabilize the earth at the site.
