Nearly 1,300 corruption cases in 2016-2021 had caused a total loss of VND31.8 trillion ($1.28 million) to the state budget, the parliamentary oversight team said.
In the 2016-2021 period, police had investigated nearly 1,300 cases related to corruption and waste of public funding. The total loss caused to the state budget was determined at around VND31.8 trillion, with the central government losing VND12.3 trillion and local authorities the rest.
Of those cases, around 1,100 had been taken to court, and a total sum of VND26.5 trillion has been revoked for the state budget, an oversight team of the National Assembly (NA) announced at the ongoing session of the 15th NA in Hanoi on Monday.
The team said in the five-year period, corruption and waste had been detected among more than 3,000 public projects.
Meanwhile, government inspectors had launched 50,000 probes into more than 73,200 state agencies in that period, uncovering more than VND150.1 trillion and 63,200 hectares of public land as part of corrupted cases.
Most violations occurred at state-owned companies, according to inspectors.
