Cop stabbed to death by man thought to have mental illness

Captain Tran Duy Hung’s unit in Thuy Van Ward was informed by local residents that Nguyen Tan Sang, 25, was standing in the middle of the street, looking abnormal and blocking vehicles.

Hung and his colleagues arrived at the spot and he tried to drag Sang away when he was stabbed multiple times on his neck and stomach.

Sang was arrested and Hung was rushed to a hospital, but tragically he succumbed to his injuries.

The Thuy Van police reportedly became aware several days ago that Sang often stood on the street showing signs of mental illness.
