Coach Mano Polking is set to terminate his contract with Thailand national football team and return to Vietnam to manage the newly promoted V. League club Cong An Ha Noi (CAHN).
Polking has scheduled an appointment with Football Association of Thailand (FAT) on Thursday to express his desire to be released from the contract. The 47-year-old coach will have to pay compensation because his contract with FAT is still valid until the end of 2023.
Polking wants to leave the Thailand national team to return to V. League, following a long-term contract offer from CAHN. The Brazillian-German coach aims to win the V. League title, after the previous unsuccessful attempt with HCMC FC in 2021.
After parting ways with HCMC, Polking was appointed by FAT to be the head coach of Thailand in a four-month contract. After helping Thailand to win the 2020 AFF Cup, his contract was extended.
At SEA Games 31 last year, Polking took U23 Thailand team to the final but lost 0-1 to host Vietnam. After that, he successfully defended the AFF Cup title with Thailand by defeating Vietnam in the final last January.
For the 2023 V. League season, CAHN signed many national team players such as Phan Van Duc, Ho Tan Tai and Doan Van Hau. However, after the first seven rounds, they underperformed and peaked only fifth with 11 points, which puts the current coach Paulo Foiani under great pressure.
