China shopper has Louis Vuitton staff spend 2 hours counting $84K, then walks out

A woman in China, resentful of past treatment by staff at a Louis Vuitton store, took revenge by making them count US$84,000 in cash for two hours before leaving empty-handed.

The wealthy woman shared on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu that she hatched the revenge scheme after feeling snubbed by employees at the Louis Vuitton outlet in the StarLight Place shopping center in Chongqing, southwestern China, The Straits Times reported.

The incident occurred in June when the shopper visited the store to buy clothes. During her visit, the staff ignored her request for drinking water and misdirected her to outdated seasonal items instead of showing her new arrivals. When she sought recommendations on dresses, the employees rolled their eyes and appeared visibly impatient.

Afterward, she called the luxury brand’s headquarters to file a complaint but was ignored, leaving her anger to fester for months.

Two months later, she revisited the store along with her personal assistant and a friend, and a bag containing 600,000 yuan (US$84,000) in cash, as reported by The Sun.

The group tried on clothes and informed a salesperson that they intended to purchase them with the cash.

The staff spent two hours counting the money, but once they finished, the woman announced that they had changed their minds and would be leaving instead.

The woman’s revenge plot took the internet by storm, with many users singing her praises, according to the South China Morning Post.

The story delighted many, as the dismissive attitude of sales staff is a topic that often sparks interest on social media in China.

“They sell luxury goods, but it does not mean they are luxury goods themselves,” a netizen commented.
