As reported by the South China Morning Post, uploaded to TikTok on Monday, the video didn’t specify details about the location or date of the incident. It captures a female employee, dressed in a reflective Cathay Pacific vest, repeatedly throwing suitcases from a higher step of the staircase that descends from an airplane to the tarmac.
“Wonder why your suitcase is broken all the time?” the uploader wrote in the caption.
In response to the incident, the airline issued an apology on Tuesday for the inconvenience caused to passengers. It confirmed that the person in the video is an employee of its ground-handling service provider and stated that she has been suspended from her duties while the investigation continues.
The airline also noted that it has asked the ground-handling service provider to improve staff training and supervision to prevent such incidents in the future, emphasizing the high standards expected of all personnel involved in its operations.
In May, Delta Air Lines’ baggage handlers were also observed tossing the East Tennessee State University Men’s Golf Team’s golf club bags onto the airport tarmac, prompting the flight operator to issue an apology afterwards, according to NBC News.
