The South China Morning Post reported that the incident occurred just minutes after the flight took off from Hong Kong at 5 p.m. on Monday.

According to The Independent, a photo, allegedly taken by a passenger, that shows the female flight attendant with the door circulated widely online. Another photo depicted two individuals, possibly crew members or passengers, near the door, appearing to help.

Nonetheless, the flight proceeded to its final destination, landing safely at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Cathay Pacific quickly addressed inquiries about the incident, confirming they were handling the situation and investigating further.

“The defect was rectified and our engineering team is performing a follow-up investigation,” said a Cathay Pacific spokesperson. “The safety of our customers and crew guides every decision we make. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience caused.”

This event isn’t the first time Cathay Pacific has been in the spotlight for unusual events this week. On Monday, a video showing a female employee in a Cathay Pacific vest throwing suitcases down a staircase from an airplane to the tarmac was uploaded on TikTok and became viral. The video did not provide specific details about when or where this occurred.
