Canadian tennis beauty likes to promote sport’s sexiness

Eugenie Bouchard, runner-up at the 2014 Wimbledon, believes that the sexiness of female players is one of the factors that help tennis develop.

Bouchard believes the fact that players like her wearing short skirts and tight tops make tennis more attractive. The former Wimbledon runner-up admitted that her appearance helped her become more than just a conventional athlete.

“Tennis, first of all, is a great sport for that sex appeal side,” Bouchard said in an interview with YouTuber Valeria Lipovetsky.

“We’re wearing short skirts, we’re wearing tank tops. It’s fun to turn on the TV and watch that. Right away I was able to get great marketing deals off the court. I was asked to be in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition a few times.

“Exploring that path was definitely on my to-do list. It’s definitely part of who I am because I think it’s great.”

Bouchard reached the 2014 Wimbledon final when she was 20 years old. She also played the semifinals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros. But her career went downhill due to constant injuries.

She fell out of the top 100 in 2018 and could not get back in.

Last year Bouchard only played six matches, exiting most tournaments in the first round. This year she has not competed and has nearly retired at the age of 30.

“Tennis is the only thing I know, but it can’t be the only thing I’ll ever do in my life. So I found it very interesting to be in the magazines or do fashion stuff and see that I really enjoy these things as well,” Bouchard said.

Recently, Bouchard posted on social media a video of her gardening in a bikini. The video immediately went viral and caused controversy, although the Canadian tennis player later clarified that this was just for a commercial.

Bouchard is also working as a sports model. Besides promotion deals, she also appears at major fashion events. The former world number five admitted that one of the reasons she pursues fashion is money.

“It’s just increasing my fan base, my audience, which in turn helps me get better brand deals, better endorsements,” she said.

“That’s good for tennis in general, for female tennis, for women’s sports, that’s good for everything.”
