Cambodia says foreign tourists not required to show $1,000 upon entry

The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism confirmed it does not require tourists to show $1,000 to $2,000 in cash upon entering the country.

The clarification comes after a number of airline employees asked tourists to show they had $1,000 or $2,000 in cash before boarding flights bound for the country, the Khmer Times reported, citing a source in the ministry.

Cambodia has already waived some requirements, including immunization cards and rapid Covid tests, and only requires a completed customs certificate and visa application upon arrival.

In 2022, Cambodia is expected to receive about 2.2 million foreign tourists.

According to the Tourism Advisory Board of Vietnam, Cambodia is third in Southeast Asia in terms of international tourism recovery, reaching just 26.3% of pre-pandemic tourist arrivals in 2022, behind Singapore (30.9%) and Malaysia (27.5%).

Vietnam is at the bottom of regional recovery ranked at 18.1%.
