Head coach Ryu Hirose appreciated Vietnam’s power but said Cambodia would approach their AFF Cup game Sunday with an attacking display instead of defending.
“Vietnam are really strong, but Cambodia will try to cause them trouble. We will maintain possession and attack throughout the game, even if we lose,” Hirose said.
Cambodia have already been eliminated with only one win after three games. However, under the lead of coach Hirose and manager Keisuke Honda, they have impressed people with an offensive playing style.
“I cannot say Cambodia are confident to score against Vietnam. To me, their style of play, deployment and playmaking are more important,” Hirose added.
Cambodia have lost all eight previous encounters against Vietnam. In the most recent one at SEA Games 2019, they lost 0-4 against Vietnam.
“I’m always excited when facing stronger opponents like this. Vietnam are really good. We will try our best. Hopefully, we can create something against Vietnam,” he said.
After three games, Vietnam are second with seven points like Indonesia but scored less goals. The Golden Dragons only need one point against Cambodia to advance.
The game will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday and will be reported live on VnExpress International.
