Calum Scott compliments Vietnamese singer on collaboration single

British multi-platinum singer-songwriter Calum Scott praised Vietnamese singer Hoang Duyen’s performance on their collaboration single ‘Heaven’, expressing his desire to visit Vietnam and do a show there one day.

The single and its music video were released on Thursday night. “Heaven” is a soulful ballad penned by Scott that captures the feeling of falling in love, which is universal, powerful and transcends boundaries.

Hoang Duyen’s part in the song was sung in both English and Vietnamese, while her scenes in the music video were shot in Ho Chi Minh City.

“It’s amazing to work on the project with all of the artists and especially with Duyen because she actually sang this in Vietnamese, which I think is so special and brings a totally new perspective to ‘Heaven’. I didn’t understand the lyrics because it’s in Vietnamese but I did understand the passion and the emotion. She has such a beautiful voice, it sounds so angelic and effortless. I’m so proud to present this song to Vietnam and I would love to come there to perform this live with Duyen,” Scott said.

Scott hopes that he can come to Vietnam in the near future to do a show and explore the country.

“I haven’t got a show in Vietnam yet. I would love to come and show my love and support to the fans that have kept me living my dream. Hopefully, I’ll be able to come to Vietnam and experience the food and the culture there,” he added.

For Duyen, it all started when she was sent a demo of the song with an invitation to collab with Scott.

“I fell in love with the demo from the first listen. I also love Calum’s songs and his inspirational story in Britain’s Got Talent, so I accepted the invitation without any hesitation. It would be a pleasure for me to perform with Calum on the same stage one day. If we have a chance to see each other in Vietnam, I will take him to Hanoi and let him try the best pho ever,” Duyen said.

Hoang Duyens scenes in the music video for Heaven was shot in HCMC.

Scott said the reason he chose Duyen for this collaboration is because her vocal suits the song so well.

“I was looking for an artist in Vietnam who would be able to collab with me on ‘Heaven’ where our voices would fit perfectly. I have sung in Portuguese and French before, but again, to have an artist sing in their native language is so special and Duyen is the perfect pick for my collaboration in Vietnam,” he said.

There are four versions of the single, with each one featuring an acclaimed pop artist in Southeast Asia, including Darren Espanto (Philippines), Diana Danielle (Malaysia), Lyodra (Indonesia) and Hoang Duyen. The music videos for them were released at the same time (7 p.m. Thursday).

“The feeling that I want to evoke from the listeners is the same feeling that I get when I wrote this song. I want to create something that people will listen to on repeat and connect with on a personal level. I think that’s the magic of music. It’s an international language and I think to share it across Southeast Asia is just magical,” Scott said.

Calum Scott became famous worldwide in 2015 after competing in UK talent competition program Britain’s Got Talent and finished sixth. In 2017, he signed a professional record deal and released the single “You Are the Reason”, which became an international hit and its music videos have garnered a total exceeding 1.31 billion views on YouTube.

“Heaven” will be included in Scott’s upcoming second studio album named “Bridges”, scheduled for release on June 17.

Hoang Duyen, 23, came to attention in early 2021 with her debut single “Chang Trai So Mi Hong” (The Boy In Pink Shirt) and “Saigon Dau Long Qua (Saigon, It Hurts), which stormed the charts in Vietnam. In December 2021, she won Best New Asian Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in South Korea.
