The list, unveiled on Wednesday, introduces Bach Tuyet as a “household staple” in Vietnam for her contributions to cai luong and her innovative collaborations with modern art forms like hip-hop.
Delighted by this honor, Bach Tuyet recalls her mother’s advice to lead a life beneficial to others.
“At this age, I realize the impermanence of life, of how things come and go,” she added. “But I am fortunate to still have cai luong to joyfully live and work.”
Born Nguyen Thi Bach Tuyet in An Giang province in the Mekong Delta, the veteran artist debuted on stage in 1962. She earned a gold medal for promising talent at the prestigious Thanh Tam Award for cai luong artists a year later. She achieved a Ph.D. in Art in 1995.
Forbes introduced its “50 Over 50: Asia” list in 2022. Thai Thi Huong, founder of TH Group and chairman of TH Group Strategy Council, featured on the inaugural list, was the first Vietnamese to be honored.
The 2024 list includes women from 14 countries and territories, covering fields from arts to pharmaceuticals and finance. Notable names on the list include 96-year-old Chinese-American actress Lisa Lu, 67-year-old Indonesian actress and film producer Christine Hakim, and 55-year-old Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue.
