Nearly 700 passengers flying to Da Lat on Friday with flag carrier Vietnam Airlines could not reach their destination as expected because of poor weather.
Vietnam Airlines was forced to cancel two flights departing from the central city of Da Nang and two others from Hanoi to Da Lat due to foul weather, affecting the travel plans of around 690 passengers, the airline announced late Friday.
Passengers of the economy class were compensated with VND300,000 (US$14.12) each, while those traveling on business class received VND400,000.
Earlier, Vietnam Airlines flight VN1380 departing from Ho Chi Minh City had to land in Cam Ranh International Airport in the coastal province of Khanh Hoa instead of Lien Khuong terminal in the Central Highlands city for the same reason.
Passengers on the flight had to travel to Da Lat on buses arranged by the air carrier.
“The flag carrier announced the cancelations of its services from Da Nang and Hanoi at 3:15 pm,” said Nguyen Thi Hong Phuong, director of Lien Khuong airport.
Holidaymakers traveling to Da Lat with low-cost carrier VietJet Air were luckier, as five VietJet Air flights managed to land safely at Lien Khuong airport the same day.
“This is because of the unpredictable weather in Da Lat,” Phuong explained.
There were intermittent heavy rains and strong winds mixed with clear and sunny skies.”
