Authorities in Dubai sentenced a British tourist to three months in jail for insulting airline staff over a wheelchair for his mother.
The man who cursed at an airport employee in a transit area of Dubai International Airport was handed the sentence late last month by the Dubai Court of Appeal, according to Business Insider.
He was initially fined 10,000 UAE Dirhams (US$2,700) for the incident but he appealed.
The tourist became aggressive after airline staff said they could not immediately provide a wheelchair to take his mother to a shuttle bus, that would then transport them to a different terminal, Mail Online reported.
The staff asked the man not to use curse words but he replied that he did not care, the court heard. The employee then called the police.
The use of explicit language in public is banned in the United Arab Emirates and carries a punishment of up to a year in prison and fines as high as 10,000 Dirhams.
