Bombs with detonators intact found in central Vietnam

Military engineers from the Nghe An Military Headquarters on Monday said local military and militia forces had dug out the three bombs in Tan Ky District, and transported them to an empty plot of land.

The bombs, located 1.5-2 meters underground, were about 50 meters away from people’s homes with their detonators still intact. The words and symbols on their hulls had already faded over time.

The bombs will be detonated and disposed of on Tuesday.

The area where the bombs were found was heavily bombarded by U.S. forces during the Vietnam War.

All Vietnam localities are contaminated with unexploded ordnance (UXO), with 5.6 million ha of land affected, according to the Vietnam National Mine Action Center. Around 600,000-800,000 tons of UXO are still hidden underground, and 110,000 people have been injured by them.
