Binh Duong proposes railway connection with Ba Ria Vung Tau

Southern Binh Duong Province, home to many industrial zones, wants to build a railway to boost cargo transport to ports in Ba Ria Vung Tau Province.

The province’s government on Sunday assigned the Provincial Management Board of Traffic Construction Investment Project to coordinate with agencies to prepare a pre-feasibility report for the project.

The railway will run more than 125 km from Binh Duong’s Bau Bang District to Cai Mep – Thi Vai Terminal in Ba Ria – Vung Tau.

It will stretch 42 km long from Bau Bang to Di An City in Binh Duong, and the rest of it will be in Dong Nai and Ba Ria – Vung Tau provinces.

According to Binh Duong’s Department of Transport, the Ministry of Transport has already worked on a pre-feasibility report for the railway’s parts through Dong Nai and in Ba Ria – Vung Tau.

Binh Duong now asked Dong Nai and Ba Ria – Vung Tau to go ahead with the plan. All three localities are neighbors of Ho Chi Minh City.

As estimated by Binh Duong, the railway section within the province will cost VND34.3 trillion (US$1.45 billion), including VND9.5 trillion from the state budget and the rest from official development aid and private investment.

Binh Duong is home to many industrial parks and processing zones but the transportation of goods to ports in Ba Ria – Vung Tau is often interrupted by traffic jams on National Highway 51. This new project will address the issue.
