Binh Duong Province led the country’s 63 cities and provinces in corruption control for a second year in a row, according to the Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index.
The province, an industrial hub bordering Ho Chi Minh City, scored 7.94 out of 10, according to the index released by the UNDP, Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, which represents and protects the lawful rights and interests of the people, and the Center for Community Development Studies Wednesday.
A locality’s capability was measured based on control of corruption in local government agencies, providing public services, fairness in recruitment to government jobs, and the local government’s determination to fight bribery.
Binh Duong was followed by Phu Tho, Ha Nam, Thanh Hoa, Quang Binh, Thua Thien Hue, Binh Dinh, Ninh Thuan, Tien Giang, and Hau Giang.
The worst performers were Dien Bien, Lao Cai and Binh Phuoc Provinces.
Of the major cities, Hai Phong topped with 6.88, followed by Hanoi, Da Nang, Can Tho, and HCMC.
The 2022 report surveyed more than 16,000 residents across the country, and less than 75% said governments have been serious about fighting corruption.
