BẾN TRE – Bến Tre Province aims to eradiate all temporary and dilapidated houses and replace them with concrete houses by 2025.
The Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta locality has taken various policies and measures to assist poor, near-poor and housing-needy households to repair or rebuild their temporary and dilapidated houses in recent years.
Early this month, it launched a movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province until 2025.
Speaking at the ceremony, Trần Ngọc Tam, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said the province has taken various social security policies to improve the lives of people.
However, it still faces difficulties from the impact of natural disasters, climate change and socio-economic developments, so the task of taking care of people has not been implemented fully and comprehensively, he said.
He asked localities and agencies at all levels to participate in the movement of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide until 2025 launched by the Prime Minister.
Priority will be given to housing support for poor, near-poor and housing-needy households, and it should be ensured with practicality and efficiency, he said.
The province has 695 social policy beneficiary households, and 1,658 poor and near-poor households which need assistance to repair or rebuild their houses.
Individual and organisational philanthropists have donated money to help the province rebuild temporary and dilapidated houses.
Former President Trương Tấn Sang has mobilised philanthropists to donate money to build 250 charity houses for social policy beneficiary households and poor households in the locality.
These households are given VNĐ70 million (US$2,800) each to rebuild their houses.
The province is also building 1,000 “great solidarity” houses for poor, near-poor, and house-needy households. – VNS
