ĐÀ LẠT  Artworks inspired by ballet performances by Hà Nội-based artist Lê Anh Quân are being introduced to the public in Đà Lạt City in the Central Highlands province of Lâm Đồng.

Những Bé Gái Ballet (Ballet Girls) presents 17 works that have been elaborately decorated and created from a variety of materials like mirrors, glass and wood. They are being displayed at Le Lycée Ballroom, a space designed on the concept of a French high school within Ana Mandara Villas Dalat Resort & Spa in Đà Lạt.

The exhibition is a rare opportunity for art enthusiasts to contemplate Quân’s artworks. His paintings were last displayed to the public in November at Viet Art Space.

The artist revealed that he was only ready to share his works in a space that he found appropriate and truly “touches” his emotions.

He chose Đà Lạt as the venue for Ballet Girls as it is where he found feelings of the past, which is the “catalyst” connecting unimaginable objects into his paintings and collection.

“I think that the peaceful setting of this place could evoke new emotions among viewers of Ballet Girls with a slow, simple and delicate approach. I believe that this will be an exhibition space that creates emotions for many other artists and is also an inspiration for new artworks,” Quân told the Thanh Niên (Youth) newspaper.

Quân said that the exhibition was inspired by the time during which he worked as an art teacher and his boundless love for his daughter Hạ Lam. Both of them have a strong interest in ballet. Such sweet inspiration is conveyed in every work at the exhibition, like Đứa Bé Múa (Dancing Baby), Mưa – 2021 (Rain – 2021) and Mặt Trời (Sun).

Different from the images of children that he had portrayed before, those in Ballet Girls are more romantic and delicate.

The exhibition will last until March 30.

Born in 1977 in Hà Nội, Quân graduated from the Việt Nam University of Fine Arts and became one of the few young painters who soon asserted their own style with constant creativity and artistic exploration.

He has successfully organised many exhibitions at home and abroad that have been highly appreciated by audiences and experts such as the Asian contemporary art group exhibition in New York in 2008, group exhibition Một Chuyến Đi (One Trip) in Berlin, Germany in 2015, group exhibition Amitié in Paris, France in 2019 and a solo exhibition at the Việt Nam National Museum of Fine Arts in 2019, among others.
