Vietnam’s auto sales surged 23.92% to 508,547 units last year, as consumption rose post-pandemic, with top auto brands enjoying double-digit growth.
The data was compiled from Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), TC Motor (which assembles for Hyundai) and VinFast.
Regarding VAMA figures alone, the biggest monthly sales last year was recorded in May when over 43,800 units were sold.
A slump in June due to a shortage of parts was quickly compensated for by a recovery in the remaining months with 30,000-36,000 units sold each month.
Truong Hai Auto Corporation led in sales with 130,300 units sold during the year, up 25% year-on-year. It was followed by Toyota, with 91,100 units, for an increase of 34.9%. Mitsubishi, Honda and Ford made up the rest of the top five.
The sale of passenger cars alone shot up 48% to 316,941 units.
The Toyota Vios sedan was the best-selling model in Vietnam last year at 23,500 units, followed by the Hyundai Accent, and the compact MPV Mitsubishi Xpander.
