Forty-year-old Australian tourist Craig Clive Hilton received a six-week jail sentence in Singapore for assaulting a local security officer while vacationing with his family.
In addition to his jail term, Hilton was also ordered to pay the 25-year-old victim a monetary compensation, according to his sentence read Wednesday, reported The Straits Times.

The incident unfolded at a serviced residence in Singapore, where Hilton’s partner sought a separate room on Nov. 6 after an argument. The Australian man then went looking for his partner’s whereabouts while drunk, and he confronted a security officer at the front desk around 3:30 a.m.
When the officer refused to give him information about his wife’s room, Hilton reacted violently. He pushed the officer to the ground, kneed him in the face, and punched him.
The injured officer subsequently retreated from the site and was hospitalized at the Singapore General Hospital. Local police were informed about the incident as well.
Hilton told the court that he attacked the officer because he thought he had lost his passport and the victim looked guilty, but he found his action “disgusting” regardless, according to the South China Morning Post.
The sentence Hilton received was lighter than it could have been, with potential penalties for such offenses reaching up to S$10,000 (US$7,500) in fines, or up to five years in jail, or both.
