Citing heightened coronavirus risks, a Hanoi district and several other locations have suspended non-essential activities and will allow only food and drink takeaways until further notice.
The restrictions apply starting Sunday noon in downtown Hai Ba Trung District, five wards of Hoan Kiem District and two wards in Tay Ho District. The decision was taken just a few hours after Hanoi announced these areas at high risks of Covid-19 infections.
The municipal People’s Committee has said that all sports and physical exercise activities in these locations would be suspended. Twelfth graders, students in vocational schools and continuing education facilities will switch to online classes until further notice.
Religious institutions and other places of worship would go online as well. Activities that require in-person participation can allow no more than 20 people at a time, and they will have to submit medical declarations through QR codes. All participants must either be fully vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19.
Residential facilities like hotels must not exceed half their maximum capacity, and their owners and employees must either be fully vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19. Groups going to tourist attractions must not exceed 10 people.
Hai Ba Trung authorities have also requested residents to limit non-essential meetings and conferences with large gatherings and encouraged online solutions. Staff should work in alternate shifts (except for armed forces or health workers) in order to prevent infection.
People are advised to stay home, go out only for very essential reasons and avoid large gatherings.
Earlier on December 13, Dong Da District in the downtown also suspended on-site dining and large gatherings.
Hanoi’s Dong Da and Hoang Mai, along with certain wards in Hoan Kiem and Tay Ho, had already suspended non-essential activities starting October 13.
As a whole, the capital city still remains at medium coronavirus risk level. Two districts, Dong Da and Hai Ba Trung, are at high risk.
Hanoi has recorded daily coronavirus cases above 1,000 in recent days. Over 22,000 cases have been recorded in the capital in the fourth wave.
