The Ministry of Transport has required airports across the country to adopt an electronic toll collection (ETC) system at their gates.
In a statement released Sunday, the ministry said the ETC system would smooth out traffic flow and avoid congestion at airports.
The system is one solution to handling overload at airports, which has caused flight delays or even cancelations, said the ministry.
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (AVC), which operates all 22 civil airports in Vietnam, is required to invest in more camera systems to restrict illegal parking.
Airports are also requested to manage the use of runways to ensure on-time flights.
In June, more than 5,600 flights operated by Vietnamese airlines were delayed, accounting for 18.2 percent of total services operated by the country’s six carriers, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
Among the reasons as pointed out by the CAAV is overloaded infrastructure.
With Covid-19 under control, the aviation sector has experienced strong recovery.
In the first eight months, the number of passengers through domestic airports reached 76.5 million, up 136% against the same period last year. In August alone, the number of passengers was estimated at 11.5 million, an increase of 473%.
