Aviation authorities have instructed airlines to increase flights from Hanoi and HCMC to popular tourist destinations during the holidays later this month to meet the surging demand.
On April 29, the first day of the five-day holiday for Reunification Day and Labor Day, flights from Hanoi to Da Lat, Hue, Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa, and Dong Hoi are over 96% full, according to a report from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
The load factor on routes from HCMC on April 29 is over 80%.
Return flights to Hanoi and HCMC on May 2-3 are nearly fully booked, the report added.
Vietnam Airlines announced it would offer 551,000 seats, equivalent to 2,800 flights, on domestic routes between April 26 and May 5, a slight increase year-on-year.
The CAAV has added 26 landing and take-off slots every day at HCMC’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Vietnam’s busiest, during the holidays, enabling airlines to offer an additional 5,000 tickets daily.
The Central Highlands town of Da Lat is expected to be the most popular destination followed by Da Nang and Nha Trang, according to a survey by Dutch online travel agency Booking.com based on its analysis of hotel bookings.
Last year five million people traveled during the four-day holidays.
