“Even though I’ve been to Thailand nearly 10 times, I still want to go back to there,” a tourist recently shared on a Facebook group about Thailand and the post quickly went viral.
Many people joined the thread to express complete agreement. Some people said they had visited Bangkok, went back nearly a dozen times and never felt bored.
Such comments about Thailand’s tourism are probably worth pondering for Vietnamese tourism industry, which probably needs a young, talented and creative team to create a force to pull tourists back.
Tourism brings a lot of jobs and money to the country, so helping Vietnamese tourism foster is an important task.
It is a sad truth that in tourism we always pride ourselves on being the best in everything but the number of tourists is far behind Thailand’s.
Thailand received 17.5 million foreign arrivals in the first six months of this year, double Vietnam’s figure.
We must really admit that our tourism industry has limitations and we have to find ways to improve its reputation.
In Vietnam, people keep building modern-style houses while foreign tourists do not want to look for modern things. What they need is “differences from where they live.”
Another point is that our festival activities are really nothing new and have been stereotyped over the years. We only focus on the opening and closing nights with grand art performances on stage. Specific activities are always formal and dull.
We can learn from Thailand’s Songkran festival as over the years it still attracts a large number of international tourists. Many Vietnamese people also flock to Thailand to join water-splashing activities during the week-long festival.
