A tourist from the U.K. recently claimed Singapore is not worth visiting for a holiday, calling the city state “the most overrated place in the world” in a 20-minute-long video.
In the video posted on his YouTube channel with over 1,600 subscribers, Gaz Wright recalled his three-day experience in the city state when he explored some of its tourist attractions such as Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Raffles Place, Little India and Chinatown.
“Because of what I’ve seen and the experience we’ve had so far, so unfortunately, Singapore is getting a thumbs-down,” Wright said.
He said tourists would find it boring as there was not a lot to do in the city.
He said he was not impressed by Gardens by the Bay though it is praised among Asia’s 25 most loved tourist attractions by Tripadvisor readers.
Though it’s free to watch a light show at Gardens by the Bay at night, he thought the show was pretty poor and disappointing as it is more suitable for children than adults.
He came to CÉ LA VI SkyBar in Marina Bay Sands where he praised the “phenomenal panoramic views.”
He paid £15 ($19) for a pint of beer, which he said was about triple the price in his hometown in the U.K.
At Raffles, he tried a cocktail called a Singapore Sling for £30 and claimed such price was a “killer.”
At the end of the video, he praised Singapore as “the perfect transit location” as it has one of the world’s best airports.
He was mentioning Changi, famous for its modern amenities and services, duty-free shopping, indoor rainforest, and the waterfall.
The airport has automated check-in and entry registration, biometric authentication systems and artificial intelligence to transport luggage.
“I would not come here if you are travelling to Southeast Asia on a budget. Because if you’ve seen – accommodation, drinks and food – it’s not the most budget-friendly. Actually, it’s horrendous on the budget,” he said.
Singapore has become the second most expensive city in the world for foreigners after Hong Kong in this year’s Cost of Living Survey, released by American consulting firm Mercer.
Earlier, many tourists also praised Singapore as a safe destination in Southeast Asia but complained about its high cost.
