Owner of unapproved Da Lat golf course building fined $9,800

A company was fined VND240 million ($9,807) for the construction without permit at a golf course project in the hill resort city Da Lat.

The DL Royal Company was given 90 days to seek approval for the construction and remove all parts not included in the permits.

Authorities inspected the golf course complex at the Cu Hill in Da Lat in March 2023 and found several violations. The company had been approved to build a basement there at the time, but it also built four floors above ground, with a total floor area of 17,000 m2.

A dome structure behind the building was also 3,000 m2 larger than approved.

DL Royal has suspended construction of the project as ordered by the authorities.

The Cu Hill spans over 62 ha. In 1920, the French designed the area to become a golf course, but it was used for different purposes in different times. In 1994, the area resumed its intended purpose as a golf course. The hill, which is located next to the Ho Xuan Huong Lake, is one of the few areas in downtown Da Lat with a lot of green space that has not been impacted by urbanization.

DL Royal is the owner of several tourism projects in Da Lat. Last year, the firm proposed for the construction of an entertainment and resort area, with two seven-floor basements for parking, at Cu Hill.

The proposal has not been approved.
